As part of the editorial designs I have commissioned three editorial illustrations.
These three illustrators all offer something very different, and I have picked the subject matters based on their own styles, and content they would enjoy working on.
It is really valuable to utilise the skill sets of these illustrators and be able to produce things I would not be able to do on my own. This gives a more light hearted and exciting publication, more inline with the indie mags typically seen in places like Village & MagCulture.
These 'Women with Attitude' spreads have been illustrated by Charlotte Bowie. The content of this article is slightly difficult to digest, and using these much more interesting images has give it a different dimension.
This portrait by Kieran Blakey of Zaha Hadid. Is a possible cover design the really playful techniques combined with interesting and detail texture makes it stand out therefore a perfect mag cover.
Finally I asked Annie Merrick, a student I have collaborated with previously to draw an illustration for an article about the Williams tennis playing sisters.
Allowing for illustration to be right at the heart of the work ensures the magazine looks very different to previous and gives it a more contemporary and current aesthetic.
