These twenty five design ideas will formulate the different design approaches I want to experiment with in this project. I want to identify four or five ideas that I feel work strongly and then creaste some more high quality resolutions from this.
1. using the existing trees create drop down signs that work with the natural environment and become engaging to the viewer and interactive as they need to be found as you walk through the Tropical World.
2. On the floor or on walls using a repeated design that continues through the park so the whereabouts of the animal can be discovered over gradual movement though the park and kids can interact and enjoy finding each symbol to finally lead them to the given animal.
3. Using large fake leafs that have the needed information on them creates this idea of the signage and way finding blending in with the surroundings. Tho this might become unclear and lost in the Tropical World.
4. Using the wooden panels that are present throughout the park would create a consistent and clear signage. Tho the panels are not very big and might be hard to see from a far and be too hard to read.
5. Using small footprints in the appropriate colour way for each animal section so the kids can follow and discover where the animal is for them selfs. This adds a sense of wonder and discovery to the way finding and is something kids would enjoy and interact with.
6. Using the different plastic dividers between each room and printing the signage onto this material creates a piece of way finding that can be walked through and will be clear what the next thing you will see in the tropical world.
7. Using each animal as a small character that directs the viewer using a speech bubble to see where the next thing to view is. This will become more and more memorable throughout the Tropical World and add more fun and interaction to the signage.
8, Using an arching over sign that can be walked through by the visiter. This idea may be a bit over barring and stand out too much and become a distraction within the park. The design must work with the park.
9. This is a much more simple design with an illustration of each of the animals on the left and then some simple text on the right. This idea adds a lot of the emphasis on the illustrations and lets the exhibits be the focal point of the park.
10. Using a road sign kind of idea with each of the different sections with its own panel. This idea will be informative and clear but again my be too over powering and not appropriate for the ethos and aesthetics of the Tropical World.
11. Using the sides of the pathways to display the signage uses existing parts of the park to work with the signage and is more cost effective as large new signs do not have to be created. However these are quite low down near the floor and might be hard to read for all ages.
12. Again using the footprint idea going throughout the park but with different footprint shapes for each animal. This idea would prove effective and interactive and can be enjoyed by everyone however for the aquarium parts of the park it may prove hard to find an effective and clear footprint design for the fish.
13. A simple sign panel with a clear symbol of a animal that can be constant throughout the park and is clear and informative.
14. Using colour as the recognisable part of the design rather than using animals. The green for example for the reptiles, This however is too simple and becomes a too plain and is not interactive and exciting for kids visiting the park.
15. Using different coloured lines that follow a path way to each exhibit. This idea may become confusing in places and become difficult to see and understand. On top of this the layout if the park flows around in a circuit and might just be confusing.
16. Once again using this talking animal idea but rather than saying 'follow me' it is much more direct and informative about each exhibit and where they are. This will be easier for adults to understand and is a lot more direct.
17. This idea uses the illustration as the main focus of the communication with the typography arching over the design. This design adds the focus on the illustration thus making it more interactive for kids and more much fun and enjoyable.
18. This idea uses a character in this case a bird that lets the viewers know what is around the corner. The character can be used again and again and creates a consistent and interactive way of navigating the Tropical World that works for both adults and kids. However for the younger kids that can't read this my become confusing and having a district animal may be more informative.
19. Using the illustration as the sign itself makes for more exciting and changing shapes for the signage. This may become quite expensive and hard to make and arranging the type appropriately may be difficult to keep clear and readable.
20. Using more expressive and creative shapes for each sign adds a bit of fun and change to each sign.
21. Creating trees that have signs within them and work with their surroundings. This idea is strong in terms of a fun and different kind of signage yet would be extremely expensive and difficult to make.
22. Another simple idea that uses the illustration with the words arranged around it to keep the shapes of the signage more compact and cost effective.
23. Using large leafs with each part of the information on each leaf. This would work with the surroundings and be fun and interactive for kids as they would have to spot the leafs within the Tropical World.
24. Using the floor as the signage and using different colouring for each area and the writing on top of this. This idea would be difficult to make effectively and the lettering style shape and layout would be a key factor to this.
25. Within this idea the signage works around corners and shows what is coming around each bend. This idea my be to over barring and take away from the beauty of the park. Additionally would work only on the corners of two walls and would be difficult to keep consistent throughout the park.
