The four ideas I am going to look into and create in higher quality are numbers, 3, 9, 12 and 16.
3. Using large leafs as signs with the information on them with and illustration and informative text that works within the Tropical World. This idea I feel will work with the playful and child friendly ethos of the park and will be clear yet fun to interact with and find.
9. A simple design with the illustrations on the left and the type on the right. This puts the emphasis on the quality of the illustrations and creates a much more informative and clear design that is important to experiment with any way finding and signage.
12. Using footprints of different animals so they can be followed and interacted with by kids and adults in the park. Each different footprint creates a recognisable and informative design. I chose this idea as is it fun and isn't to over barring within the park.
16. Using speech bubbles for each animal brings the park to life and is something that both the kids and adults can enjoy reading and interacting with. This idea will be both informative and interactive.
I am going to create some mock ups of each of these ideas to see what works best and is most appropriate within the context. Doing four different ideas will expand my levels of experimenting and problem solving within this project and create much more informed and though out designs.
Feed back and reflection.
At this point in the project I had feedback on my ideas so far and how my research and how my project had been going so far.
I spoke of my design ideas and asked what the group thought would be most effective and why considering target audience and clarity.
With the first idea of using fake leafs as signage with information and text on them they spoke of the design working the the environment and having a lot of different possibilities with size scale and how they are made. Yet the spoke about the idea being a little to obvious and might look crude and underdeveloped. They also spoke about how it would be difficult to incorporate my illustrations and drawing into this idea.
For the next idea of a more simplistic design they shared my views of the design allowing the illustration to be the main focus but didn't feel it quite fit the ethos and aesthetic of the Tropical World and will seem out of touch and more like a signage for something more serious. They spoke about type being a very important factor for this idea as it has to work along side my designs.
The idea of using footprints seemed popular and they spoke of how it will rescind with kids and be interactive, yet additionally they thought for adults that want to move through the park as quickly as possible this may become tedious and that another secondary design would be needed. We also discussed the clarity of this design and how it would be hard to see what some of the footprints are as they are less distinct and not recognisable enough.
Finally the last idea seemed to be the most popular and the idea of children interacting with the design much more was clear. They spoke of how this design would work along side the information and become more and more recognisable for the viewer as the move though the park.
Considering this feed back I have discovered what designs are most popular and how I can improve on them with choice of type, use of colour and size and scale.
