Barcelona Guide

Barcelona Guide by CITIx60.

This guide looks art a number of buildings, museums, shops, restaurants and landmarks around Barcelona. All with an emphasis on design and the design community. Each section there are the guides comments on each place but additionally information from the people of Barcelona. This adds a more knowledgable insight into the city and is something a little different. In terms of design the best thing I would say about the guide is the map shown above. It really shows off the amazing gridded system of the city and creates an very interesting but somewhat readable map of the city that is unlike any other map I have seen. I love choice of colours that really stand out but seem to work in unity. The map raps around the cover of the book as shown in the top image of the Guide. This is something very inventive and really draws the readers eye. The opening page is designed mainly this bright yellow colour, this relates to the Catalan flag being red, yellow and blue and creates a exciting visual change. The layout of each of the sections is fairly linear and standard but this makes it easy to read and communicates the information simply. There is plenty of information crammed onto one page and visually is a bit too much but is understandable considering the book is small. The book is very new media orientated with QR codes on each page and lots of uses of social media links throughout.

The contents page uses very inviting illustrations and the different sections are organised very clearly and the large numbers are pivotal in this. I like the use of a different paper stock choice it creates a needed visual change and is something a little different. Overall the book is very nice to look at and is fairly useful as well. There are a few elements of this design I may look to translate into my work.
