The leaflet shown above is from the Fundacio Joan Miro in Barcelona this is a good starting point in my research for this project the way the leaflet has been designed closely represents the kind of building the museum is situated in and the minimal graphic style it is laid out. Looking at the main features of the design the large images through is an aspect that allows the interesting format of the exhibition to be reflected. All the type has a real emphasis on clarity and straight forward communication. The use of red type alongside the black creates an interesting hierarchy of information that communicates the different kinds of information clearly. For example the headings 'Experiencing Art' 'in an open, dynamic' 'interactive space' is read completely separately from the rest of the text and stands out much more distinctively.
As part of the joan miro foundation they were celebrating their 40th anniversary and created this beautifully designed publication informing the viewer on the various events, exhibitions and other activities that were going on as part of this.
The first thing that struck me was the brilliant lettering for 40 years using the distinctive slopes of the building to show the numbers is clever and a nice way of connecting the cover to the building itself.
Another aspect of the design that really struck me was the very consistent and appropriate use of
typography. Implementing again the red subheadings to emphasis the hierarchy of information. The typeface is clear and readable yet feels connected to the general style of the building.
The page on the 'Lesson 0' uses a much more expressive kind of typography using only aspects of the letters to create a interesting change form the rest of the fairly formal publication.
This contents page is clear, simple and communicated the information really effectively. The use of small images signifying each section add another level of clarity to the designs. As part of the brief is to have a considered contents page I would like to look closely at this and any other contents pages to have a better understand of what works well.
Something I picked up on in this publication is the small illustration next to the page numbers, though small this adds to the personal feel to the designs and is something really nice to see and further adds to the overall aesthetics of the publication.
The images above also from this publication shows a fully red page, the only one in the publication. I really love the contrast this creates and adds again to this much more personal and interesting design that is very subtle. I would love to look at create a single red page in my designs. I think additionally it relates brilliantly to this 'Barcelona' feel to the designs.
