As this project looks at exhibition and museum branding it is really important to look at printed matter. Every new exhibition features beautiful printed exhibition leaflets. These images come from my own collection of exhibition leaflets I have had the pleasure to collect over the last few years.
Black white & Red is a common colour pallet for exhibition branding, red seems to be affiliated to exhibition branding often as it is a prominent colour in modern art.
These various images show the different sizes and shapes these leaflets take, the thing that stands out is the different typographic layouts and how a leaflet can be interesting with the simple usage of type.
This leaflet for the Fundacio Mies Van De Rohe in Barcelona shows how folds can be used to really enhance the leaflets readability and how it communicates.
As illustrated above the work often plays with colour, this is a constant throughout exhibition branding as colour is so important in art it is reflected in the branding and leaflet designs. Furthermore some really interesting plays on format of the publications.
This leaflet for the Malevich exhibition at the Stedlijk Museum shows the use of a custom typefaces for the header, this could be a possibility in this project.
