Idea 1.

I have created these six designs around 7 centimetre squared each as further experiments on my original four chosen ideas. These ideas look at the more artistic album cover from ECM records catalogue and creating my own designs experimenting with line and tone in its simplest form. The designs highlighting quality of materials and tactile textures. Trying interpreting the 'Dream 3' Track in is simplest form.

This idea uses the text in the middle as the main focal point of the design I thought creating some hand written or painted typography showing one of the quotes I have found from the 'Sleeves of Desire' book. I wanted to build up a background that would highlight the central type. The varying stroke of line create is a frequent technique in the covers of ECM records.

This design uses a similar style in that it makes central text the focal point but using a different coloured material overlaid on top of a background of built up of diagonal tones. I have looked at using brown tape for the to highlight even further type and add an extra level of depth to the designs.

Using a range of coloured lines that come of the page this abstract combination of lines is quite eye-catching and allows the text to be highlighted in an interesting and more simple way. The combination and contrast of the colours and lines within this design are key in the overall aesthetics and how the text is interpreted.

This idea looks at the idea of paint running down the cover. I thought if the paint was to look as if it was shifting across the cover would be more alluring and different. The colours I have chosen work well in unity and look eye-catching yet engaging on the page. I think the composition on the page compliments the bottom left hand type.

This design shows a combination of strokes and lines again inspired by the works of ECM records looking at the composition of lines and how they overlap to create subtle tones. With this design I feel the relationship between each set of lines has to be composed with a lot of thought to create a appropriate and appealing composition in relation to the gentle nature of the 'Dream 3' track.

This design looks at placing the type on the left hand side within a white column this in contrast to a textured paper stock with some abstract lines on the right. A slight alternative on my original idea looking at more at the contrast between the two parts of the design.
