Picking a song!

As the various tracks in this project will form the basis of this project and inform my research and designs I alot of consideration into their themes, styles and message will allow my designs to be much more informed. When creating my designs there is an real opportunity to play with the idea of a the work being more conceptual as apposed to a much more literal interpretation of the different songs. Identifying what I believe to be the obvious approach to each track will allow me to think about if I want to follow this or create something a little different. I additionally want to pick a song I feel I personally engage with, this will then inspire my designs and allow me to enjoy the design process much more.

Chvrches - Clearest Blue

A electronic band from Glasgow their style of music and general aesthetics denote a contemporary and current style. The typography of there logo for example uses the interesting characters for the V and E if I was to pick this for my designs I think I would need to think about if I would want to keep with their current aesthetics or not. The style of music is not really to my taste and my be a little uninspiring when creating designs.

Etta James - At Last

Recorded in 1961 this beautifully soulful song is a real classic of Jazz and Blues, it has been used in many many films. Etta James is a pioneer of the genre 'At Last' being the most famous of all of her tracks. This song is a real gem and would be a fantastic song to look at as the lyrics are so evoking and engaging.

Jack Garratt - Worry

This track much like the Chvrches - Clearest Blue song is much more current compared to its counter parts the style of music combined soulful and passionate singing with electronic drum beats and almost dance music. This style of music is extremely popular as the moment and has a fairly specific style that goes along with the music that is not dissimilar to the Chvrches designs for its album covers and website.

The Jam - Art School

This British punk rock band from the 60's and 70's is a real icon of the movement there music is extremely fast tempo and direct.. Their style is amazingly individual and reflects this the care free punk aesthetics. The way the artists dress and their album covers are a perfect example of this anti-establishment style that the band reflected. The spray painted writing on their album covers really shows this carefree and anarchist aesthetic that really made the band so famous. I think this design would create alot of interesting designs that could either reflect this punk style or be could be interesting if it was extremely different and against the general characteristics.

John Lennon - Imagine

Written of course by John Lennon of the Beatles this song is defiantly the most famous of the seven tracks  and for good reason the lyrics are so powerful and seem like all of the Beatles songs resined with so many people. If I was to pick this for my designs I think the work would have to stand out even more and be something incredible engaging and thoughtful.

Max Richter - Dream 3

This track is the subtlest, it is very different from the rest there is no use of lyrics or singing within this song and it is much longer than the others. I feel out of the seven that this will be the least popular and may have the least entries this may be useful in trying to get my designs into the exhibition. I feel the music can be interpreted into a much more varied designs and would still remain recognizable. I personally really enjoyed listening to the song and the other music by Max Richter. This notion of dreams is extremely interesting, it has been used throughout art and design and could definitely inform some engaging and alluring designs.

Tame Impala - The Less I Know the Better

This artist out of the seven I listen to on a more frequent basis and I really love their music. They too have a rather particular aesthetic within their album cover designs and posters that has an underlining psychedelic theme. The current album artwork for this track is one of my personal favorites and is amazingly engaging relates perfectly to their music. I am defiantly going to conciser looking at this track for my designs.
