Studio Practice

The Brief is to redesign a given Company Logo ours being Coral Betting & Gambling. The task is set to be completed in a group of 5 working collaboratively to create a final presentation of the new logo design. Only using the six basic typefaces suggested by Massimo Vignelli being Garamond, Bodoni Century Expanded, Futura, Times Roman and Helvetica and without use of draw symbols.

 Our group began by firstly talking about all we knew about the company and what first came to mind when thinking about Coral, we then went on to discuss what we all felt is the companies target market and there unique selling point. We decided that there target market was a predominantly male audience and there was a real focus on sports and in particular Football.

 We then thought it would be best to start this project by looking at various other betting companies and see how they differ from Coral and begin to start understanding design trends within the betting world we found in general  most of the designs were fairly down market and there was a real emphasis on making the designs affordable and trustworthy. We went onto discuss different companies branding that were similar in design styles like Morrisons, Poundland and Asda all using basic readable typography to seem approachable and cheap.

After this we began to discuss what branding we liked and this helped get a grasp of everyone in the groups styles and interests in graphics. We spoke about the new Lucozade branding campain and how they have used very bright and contrasting colours to really draw attention to the brand.

Overall we worked very well as a group and managed to confidently get are thoughts and ideas across to one another. We decided that we would each go off and research the typography we needed to look and think about what different aspects of the typeface portrayed for the overall image of the design. As well as looking in detail at the Coral branding and other betting companys.
