Design ideas for Hitchhikers Guide on road safety
Scans of ideas and possible layouts for my leaflet. Considering the hierarchy of information and what different content I could possibly have.
This first design is a ruff sketch of how I could possibly layout the designs. A simple folding to not overcomplicate the information and using the famous 'DON'T PANIC' for the back page. On the opposing side of the page a large text based design with a diagonal road coming on and of the left hand side of the page. I wanted to make the design dramatic and engaging from a far.
These sketches are more finalised on the left it shows the use of the yellow bar at the top typically seen in the animations and then below two ideas for the inside cover and how it uses the combination of both text and illustrations to be informative. On the right looking at different places to put the 'DON'T PANIC' and how they would impact and change the hierarchy of the information.
All of these drawings are sketched from the animation looking at the sizes, scales and what kind of content they use. Doing these drawing really helped raise my understanding of how they look and the use of simple shapes. I found it is often that the drawings are made of one long continues line and work a lot with negative space. The trees and this use of a high horizon line is something I want to experiment with in the designs as it relates to how a car and road safety illustration would look. The thumb in a planet logo in the top right of the page is something used a lot in the animation and I think I could incorporate in within my designs as a kind of Logo or symbol of the leaflet. I also experimented with the menu system and how that will work at the top of the page. It is shown as a drop menu in the animation however I think this will take up valuable space within the publication and become a little confusing, I want to experiment with it at the top of the page more to see the difference it makes.
