Video analysis

Stupid Git, John Altman

This video is informing the viewer on drink driving and the dangers of it. It firstly speaks about the driver not thinking that drink driving is a problem then goes on to highlight a circumstance where another driver crashes into him and he is the one that gets in trouble after they discover he has been drinking. The video is mainly made for teenagers and young adults as they are who feature in the video and the tone of voice of the narrator is fairly young and talking slightly in slang. The key facts of this video is that it can happen to anyone and that it doesn't matter who you are and it might not necessarily be your fault. The tone of voice is extremely direct and too the point and can be seen as talking directly to the viewer. I think that when creating a leaflet for this it is important to consider the target audience being young people so it must be very engaging.

Close to the edge,

This video is about crossing the road safely, the information is communicated in a rather awkward rap the target audience must then be assumed to be for young people and teenagers I think the tone of voice is once again very direct and informative and is trying to get the younger audience's attention. The key facts would be to pay attention on the road, stop at the edge of the road and look all around you before crossing. The line 'Dont step out when your close to the.. Edge , Stop, Listen, Think and you wont loose your.. Head!' is a very memorable one and is really quite annoyingly catchy. I think this is a great video to base my ideas on. The information is clear and concise.

Pedestrian Crossing,

The 1945 to 1951 information video sets out to inform the viewer on how to cross the road safely. We are firstly introduced to the Mr A character and how he might cross the road in the wrong way. The tone of voice is addressing the viewer as quickly and precisely as possible. The video educates Mr A on how to cross along with the viewer as well. It does this to great effect and it is due to the example of what not to do that achieves this. Being in the 1940's to 1950's the language used is much more descriptive and a bit old fashioned but the principles are the same and the same message is being delivered as the Close to the Edge video.

Looking at three videos with a similar theme from different times allows me to have a much clearer overview on the work and see how they differ and how the tone of voice changes throughout. I am now looking forward in my work to come up with some ideas in how to create some much more expressive and exciting ways of communicating pretty boring but useful information.
