OUGD505 - Design Practice 2 - Product Range Distribution - Photography/Art Books Research - OK-RM - Disobedient Bodies

The Studio OK-RM are responsible for many trendy art books but more recently they were asked to do the identity for the JW Anderson Exhibition at the Hepworth Wakefield.

The designs are extremely minimal and show this use of white space seen in the previous post. The design is in many ways contemporary and lets the imagery become the main focus of the designs, the images do not need to be full bleed to communicate effectively. This stripped back white space allows the imagery to breathe.

The overall exhibition branding has received a lot of positive commentary from the creative press, including Its Nice That as shown bellow.

The book of the exhibition is a real artifact and again reflects this minimal stripped back approach seen throughout the campaign.

The use of a singular colour is on a spread reflects the imagery on show, and overall aids the communication.
Once again this use of bold colour is seen in the designs.

The design shows the links between the fashion and the sculpture exceptionally.
This blue page once again aids the communication and is reflective of the whole design theme running throughout this project.
Once again thinking about distribution this poster has been translated onto twitter showing how social media can really aid the interaction between these designs online and in the real world.

OK-RM has posted this video of the exhibition catalogue showing the kind of imagery that is seen, this photography of spreads that show a glimpse into the work is typical of the book launches and would be a great way to think about distribution.

Much like the images above the 'Real Review' magazine also features a similar idea posting imagery of the spreads.

Once again this minimal stripped back approach seems to be really effective in letting the content be the focus.

The use of large block of colour is typical within OK-RM's designs and could be a way of drawing attention to the content on show. Overall the designs area really reflective of the content and would be great to look into and explore to take the designs further.

In my project so far the design is very plain and a little boring at times this can be improved on with this minimal and stripped back approach.
