After a large amount of experimentation into typefaces, graphic styles we created a PDF document to show our idea. The images below show the ideas in action. We were delighted to get the gig and be able to continue working on it.
The images above are the promotional poster ideas.
2 gif ideas for social media use.
More conceptual and different ideas for possible screen prints to give to each visiting professional.
The initial idea was to use a single typeface to create a consistency throughout, as much of the work was copy and the names of each of the speakers this would be both clear and consistent. AVANT-GARDE typeface was a different yet interesting choice as it had many alternate characters that would make the overall design much more distinctive. The W's & V's above are all the alternate and give the designs an extra dimension. Using white backgrounds really highlights the images and the content on show. The name CREATIVE CONVOS was selected as it had a connection to the week and the idea of it being very laid back and not as serious as a talk but a conversation.
FEEDBACK:
Morning lads,
I’m trying to see if we’ve got any budget to cover screen printing the individual posters.
I do like some of the screen print ideas, it’s just that the characters used as decorative elements don’t really hold much relevance on their own. Design three (with the names arranged around ‘v’s) could maybe work if it spelt out ‘convos’ in a similar haphazard fashion with different angles and type sizes. Could be nice to introduce some colour too.
The GIF is nice, we just need an ‘e’ on the end of Shannie.
With the posters that use photos, don’t be afraid to crop the images to a uniform or more suitable set of dimensions. I’d also be keen for us to touch the images up if needs be. See how I’ve altered the photos on the two attached images. I’ve removed the verticals from the type behind Rose at the edges of the image, looks a lot cleaner and more intentional this way. I’ve got rid of Shannie’s laptop and the projection on the wall. You could just crop those kind of elements out, but either way, we can make the images ‘fit’ a lot better with some minor tweaks.
Finally, could we please change the date and time to the following format. 30.01.18 13:00-15:30 (I’ve used Rose’s as the example here). If that looks turd, please go for 30.01.18 1pm-3pm or January 30th 2018 (I’d basically like the month and year in there so that these posters have some archival quality.
I’m awaiting a reply from Amber re: print budget. If you see her, please ask on my behalf or let her know that I’m keen to see if we do have budget. I think the individual posters would make a far better (ego massaging) gift for each of our speakers.
Let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Alec
