End of Year Show Publication

As part of the end of year show there is an opportunity to create a publication showcasing the work of the final year graphics students. This project has a large budget and would be a opportunity to create a printed outcome. This is something I really don't want to miss. Me, Ed and Dylan all decided to work together on this as we have a range of skill sets and would be able to have a fresh perspective on the designs. We would need to create a pitch for the designs to show the class and demonstrate our ideas.

The design would be printed by Evolution printers in Sheffield, this gave a chance to really push the technological side of the designs. While there I asked about Die Cutting and the how this works there. They offer it and would be able to do it to a high standard.

My initial idea for the design is based on the cover, as this would need to be really high impact and draw as much attention as possible. I felt it could have 4 semi abstract shapes spelling out the letters BAGD representing BA Graphic Design. These would be die cut to give extra intrigue and an opportunity to showcase some work behind. As shown above one of my screen prints from previous demonstrated on the page behind.

When the designs were shown to Ed & Dylan they made note of the fact the G seemed out of place and a more geometric design was needed. So in a group we tried to create a more geometric yet still recognisable G. Asking feedback from anyone we could asking ' What letter is this?? - and the reply - a G!' This was the just a start off idea but it seemed really popular in the group and we began thinking about what else could we do to with Die Cutting. Thinking about having small windows giving previews to the work coming on the next page.

Dylan also suggested a way of connecting the digital to the printed, explaining there is a way you can scan a work and get it to show on screen a moving version of the work. This will be keep in everyone's work being represented equally and the publication being a real success.
