We have been looking at newspapers and trying to identify the use of the grid within their design and how it is constant throughout the newspaper and what this does in terms of consistency and readability.
I have looked at this page from the Guardian and it is very clear they use a five column grid design throughout the paper this is a fairly uncommon design and sets them apart from the rest and makes The Guardian identifiable amongst other newspapers. This kind of grid allows the design to quickly place text into the paper and keeps consistent throughout. Within this grid system photos can be spread over two colors. It is clear from the advert on the right hand side how not using a grid can become unreadable and doesn't work nearly aswell.
