OUGD503 - Responsive - Research -MCBESS

MCBESS - an illustrator I have admired for a while, the amount of detail and depth to his work is really inspiring. Something in illustration I always love is the creation of a scene or place. McBess's work creates a dense and full world that has many hidden areas and things that are not clear from first view.

The style is very dark and a little scary this therefore would not at all be appropriate for the colouring book, however the sense of depth and brilliant use of detail could be used to create a design that is less flat than the common colouring book pieces.

Mcbess's use of mountains disappearing into the background is intriguing and adds again to the sense of depth. This could be something to consider.

Typography is another part of these illustration that has an interesting role, the type is subtle but can be used to communicate information that is not communicated right away.

Overall there are many aspects of this work that can be taken forward into my designs.
