OUGD503 - Responsive - Studio Brief 02 - Royal Opera House - Two relates works

In our group we discussed how it would be useful to each select two pieces of work that could form part of a 'mood board' for this project. This would allow us to gain an understanding of what kind of work we want to create as well as finding a common ground of interests for the work to sit in.

The first work I have selected is 'How We Got To Now' an animated piece created for a title sequence of a TV documentary series. The work won an Emmy for short animated video and is an example of a complete and beautifully put together project.

The range of skills shown in the video are really commendable and use excellent uses of, illustration, animation, typography as well as amazing imagery. This work hopefully could act as a marker for or collaborative piece, showing how many skill sets can come together to form one piece of work.

The work uses simplistic animated imagery alongside collage and an interesting depth of field so the work appears more three dimensional. The colour choice is subtle and takes nothing away from the content.  Overall it is a very well thought out piece of work and could be a marker in this project to work to!

The second works that I have highlighted are the work by the amazing Alan Fletcher, a designer I have really admired but wanted to know more about. His work seems to connect illustration and graphics very seamlessly into a singular beautiful piece, as well as his fabulous choice and application of colour. I have wanted to try and make my work more playful and sleek at the same time and Alan Fletcher is the perfect designer to look at for influences

These poster design by Alan Fletcher show this brilliant use of colour alongside, playful imagery and considered and beautifully composed typography. For this collaborative brief It would be great to try and incorporate some of this imagery, style and colour selection into the work. I am confident that the rest of the group will see the beauty of the work of Alan Fletcher and try and work it into our practice in some way. Overall I feel these two works will help start of the mood board and give some insight into what kind of work I personally would like to create.
