OUGD505 - Design Practice 2 - Product Range Distribution - Grafica Popular , Mexico
Highlighted in the Grupa manifesto their were many movements related to poltically charged graphic design, The 'Taller de Grafica Popular' is a Mexico print movement.
The Grafica Popular used primarily wood block prints as they could be made on a fairly large scale pretty cost effectively, the overall style is bold, graphic and uses impacting imagery. The dark and concerning imagery draws the viewers attention and really screams its message. These prints may have been inspired by the famous Goya prints depicting war. Both are relief printed and use contrasting tones and really sharp angles.
This poster above combines the really impacting prints and some amazing typography. Using red and black is typical of protest posters as it is immediate and bold, these works are amazingly interesting and could form a possible starting off point in this project.
