Brixton Pound

The Brixton Pound, designer Jeremy Deller created a new B£5 pound note to celebrate five years of the Brixton pound. The idea is that independent businesses could trade with each other. The design is a combination of psychedelic and political design looking at using very different figures on each of the notes. The vibrant design and imaginative use of type make the bank notes feel very different and reflect brilliantly the vibrancy of the shops in Brixton. Using very eye catching inks in the printing process makes sure every note stands out and feels unique. I love the use of contrasting colours throughout that again make the designs stand out. This idea of bank notes to create an independent economy of local traders is very interesting and would be a good theme to look at in this project.
