Designs of your money.
This article on Dowling Ducans submission to the Dollar Rede$ign Project explores the idea that 'even speculative work on currency design is guaranteed to provoke strong opinion'. This is something I think I will need to take into consideration within my own designs, with any kind of cultural or political issue relating to how a country is perceived will always come with some kind of controversy. This is why bank note design is forever going to be a difficult subject it is in a way a icon of the country and needs to fully represent this. Including important people, images, buildings, colours and symbols all relating to one place. This is way there is so much to look at with bank notes and in terms of design present themselves as incredibly detailed pieces of artwork rich in culture. The note for the $20 is one I am am particularly interested in its design is looks a 20th Century America, this focus on much less political driven themes and promotes technology and really feels like 'money of the future'.
The designs for this project are much more minimal compared to the classic American bank note and the clean san serif typeface throughout underlines this. The simple and composed design emphasises clarity and easy communication. Again the use of six very distinct different colours continues this theme of clarity in the design and make each as recognisable as possible. It is great to see design that are really very different and are away from the standard American bank note design.
